Sugary Drinks and Soda May Decrease Chances of Pregnancy

 In Blog

According to a study in the Journal of Epidemiology in 2018, one or more soft drinks consumed per day decreased the chances of getting pregnant for couples. Drinking soda regularly was shown to decrease semen quality in men and has negative effects on female infertility such as early menstruation. Both female and male intake of sugar-sweetened beverages was associated with 20% decreased fecundability (the average of monthly probability of conception). The consumption of one soda per day resulted in 25% lower fecundability for women and 33% lower fecundability in men. The consumption of energy drinks showed and even more reduced rate of chances of conception, but that data was based on a smaller study group. Removing sugary drinks is one of the many lifestyle changes that can have a significant positive impact for couples trying to conceive or who struggle with infertility.
