Migraines and Headaches- Where is the root cause?

 In Blog

Migraines and headaches can impact your life significantly.  Identifying what your triggers are can be life changing!  Triggers for migraines and headaches are different for everyone but there are a few that we see commonly play a role:

  • Wine and alcohol
  • Excessive caffeine intake
  • Aged cheeses
  • Processed foods
  • Food additives such as aspartame, MSG and other preservatives
  • Sleep changes
  • Stress
  • Hormone fluctuations

Foods often play a larger role than we give credit to.  Nailing down what our triggers are can be tricky and not as straight forward as we often hope it will be.

Along with the list of common triggers above, there can be triggers specific to you as well.  Completing an elimination diet, food sensitivity panel or anti-inflammatory diet can help us identify what specific triggers may be plaguing you.  Fortunately, there is testing that we can offer for both food sensitivity and food allergy identification.

As if foods were not a big enough factor, sleep changes, hormone fluctuations and stress are also known common triggers.  Managing your sleep, hormones and stress sometimes feels more impossible than identifying your food triggers.  Fortunately, as naturopathic physicians we have a very large toolbox to pull from to help you feel your best quickly!

Don’t let headaches and migraines rule your life any longer.  Make an appointment today to help uncover your triggers.  We look forward to hearing from you!
